HI Gjøvik Hovdetun
Our hostels roots go back to 1946, when the Gjøvik and Vest-Oppland Tourist Assciation decided to establish a youth shelter in Gjøvik. It was still not before 1949 that was appointed a committee with the goal of building a permanent youth shelter here. It was so decided that the shelter would be built by Hovde pond, and there were also built six tennis courts between the shelter and the pond.
The youth shelter was completed in 1957, and was given the name Hovdetun. At the time it had a capacity of 80 beds, with four beds in each room. It was later expanded to a capacity of 112 beds, with goals of further expansion down the road.
The local government was positive towards continuing the expansion, and in 1964 there were built cabins next to Hovdetun, with four more in 1970. Hovdetun has since been through multiple upgrades while becoming the wonderful hostel it is today.
We have facilities to host different events, big and small. In addition to the event spaces, we can offer catering, table service, cleanup and other services at request. Contact our reception to find out if we can arrange your next event!
